Panagiotis ARVANITIS is a Professor in the Department of French Language and Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in the scientific field of Multimedia Databases and New Information and Communication Technologies, applied to language education and training.

With a rich research activity, he has published a series of articles, chapters in collective volumes, and instructional textbooks concerning the integration of New Technologies in language education, the use and exploitation of multimedia databases, as well as the potentials offered by Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technologies in foreign language teaching.

He is an active participant in European research programs and has contributed to the design and implementation of training and professional development programs for foreign language educators for the Ministry of Education.

His primary research interests include online language learning, collaborative learning through ICT, three-dimensional virtual teaching environments, learning through mobile devices, game-based learning, and the development of technological skills in both educators and students. He is deeply interested in how educators can leverage digital technologies to promote collaborative learning in both online and real-world environments. Additionally, he delves into topics of Digital Humanities, focusing on the creation, processing, and analysis of text corpora and the ways elements of Digital Technologies can be utilized to promote cultural and educational topics. Furthermore, some of his publications emphasize the careful and selective use of ICT for education and the technological skills required by both educators and learners.
